A Prayer for Navigating the Hurricane Season

“A PRAYER FOR NAVIGATING THE HURRICANE SEASON”

By Kenneth Sullivan

(All Scriptures in this prayer are quoted from the New Living Translation of the Holy Bible).

Dear God, our Heavenly Father,

We enter into hurricane season, which starts from June 1st to November 30th. This is a period of time when warm, tropical waves of low pressure form over the oceans, causing heavy rain and sustained, rotating winds that reach catastrophic speeds across regions and producing major, widespread damage—such as flooding, damaged buildings and agriculture, and power outages, even the loss of many lives.

Yet Psalms 89:9 says You rule the oceans and subdue their storm-tossed waves. The Psalms also record that You controlled tropical storms in the past: You quieted the raging oceans and their pounding waves (Psalm 65:7).

As a result, You calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves (Psalm 107:29). Therefore, Heavenly Father, we ask You to continue to take control of the oceans as we navigate this season. Take hold of the waters, calming their winds and keeping their waves quiet when they begin to roar and foam (Psalm 46:3). Protect the regions of the earth, and especially our own community, from devastation and loss. Furthermore, Heavenly Father, may You be our haven if tropical storms approach, for You are a refuge from the storm (Isaiah 25:4).

We also lift up the brave men and women who will stand on the front lines during a storm. We pray that Your Spirit will guide the local first responders, emergency managers, and National Guard members to lead residents to storm shelters. In the aftermath of a hurricane, lead the National Guard and the U.S. Armed Forces as they are deployed to assist affected regions both at home and abroad. Grant them sufficient power as they search and rescue victims from the high floodwaters and debris-damaged buildings, clear roads, and assist the Red Cross with distributing supplies—food, water, shelter, and medical equipment. Give the utility and power crews the vigor to restore electricity.

May You bless all their services.

In

Jesus’ name. Amen

A Prayer for Navigating the Hurricane Season Lord God, we lift up everyone who is anxious and weary in this hurricane season. You see every storm before it forms, and nothing is hidden from Your care. We ask for Your protection over our homes, our families, and our communities. Calm every fearful heart and remind us that even when the winds rise, You are still in control.

Father, give wisdom to those making decisions, strength to first responders, and comfort to all who have already suffered loss. Surround them with people who can help, encourage, and support them in real and practical ways. Let Your peace, which passes all understanding, guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

If you or someone you know is in need of support during this season—whether spiritually, emotionally, or practically—I encourage you to visit the Mavis J Wancyzk Foundation website for assistance and resources:
